There is no one-size-fits-all guidance for age ranges in couples relationships, as every relationship is unique and different people are comfortable with different age gaps. However, there are some things to consider when it comes to age differences in relationships.
One thing to consider is the social norms and expectations surrounding age differences in relationships. In some cultures, it is more common for there to be significant age differences between partners, while in others, it is more unusual. It is important to be aware of these cultural norms and how they may affect your relationship.
Another thing to consider is the maturity level of the individuals in the relationship. Even if two people are close in age, they may have different levels of maturity, which can affect their ability to communicate and relate to one another.
Ultimately, the most important factor in any relationship is the connection and compatibility between the two people. Age is just one aspect of a relationship, and as long as both people are happy and healthy, an age difference should not be a barrier to a fulfilling relationship.
Personally, I’ve always applied a rule of thumb which is my age +/- 5 years. So if I’m 22 I’d be looking for a female partner between 17 and 27. If I’m 36 I’d be looking for a female partner between 31 and 41. My personal belief is that this age range ensures you’re at similar life stages, and levels of maturity. If you’re 45 and still enjoying life and parties but going out with a 70 year old who wants to put their slippers on at 6pm and stay home watching TV every night, your relationship is likely to get strained fairly quickly.
